The Desal-Pro. Intensive Training Course mainly delivers the comprehensive understanding of membrane-based desalination technologies from theory to applications. Particularly, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Forward Osmosis (FO), Pressure Retarded Osmosis (PRO), Membrane Distillation (MD), Multi-Stage Flash (MSF), Multi-Effect Distillation (MED), and its integrated processes will be covered. In the course, basic course about fundamentals of desalination theories, membrane and plant design will be firstly offered, and intensive course about membrane fouling, plant design and data engineering will be trained.

Short Bios of Lecturers
Professor Joon Ha Kim has a background of Chemical Engineering discipline from Korea as well as California in the US. He has researched on the academic area of environmental systems engineering, which associates complex environmental systems with control theories, modeling, and optimized solutions to mitigate the problems caused by the intrinsic complexities in the systems. The main research areas of Prof. Kim are environmental systems engineering including open and closed systems. Specifically, he is specialized in data-mining and modeling of complex systems, desalination engineering and optimization, watershed modeling and water pollution management, membrane systems optimization in water treatment, and non-point source pollutants modeling and management. 이미지

Professor, Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology in Korea

Professor Chuyang Y. Tang worked as an associate professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore before, where he also served as the Deputy Director of the Singapore Membrane Technology Centre. He obtained his PhD degree from the Environmental Engineering and Science Program at Stanford University in 2007. His main research interests include membrane technology, water and wastewater treatment, desalination, water reclamation, water chemistry, and advanced physical and chemical processes. He is a recipient of the Finland Distinguished Professor Program Fellows Award and the International Desalination Association Fellow Award. 이미지

Professor Ho Kyong Shon is currently an ARC Future Fellow. Since 1998, he has made significant contributions to the understanding of physico-chemical water treatment processes. The initial stage of his research career focused on understanding membrane fouling mechanisms of organic/inorganic materials for wastewater reuse. He has been involved in extensive experience of membrane-based desalination processes through National Centre of Excellence Desalination in Australia, Australia Research Council Discovery Projects (ARC DP), European Desalination project (MEDINA) and SeaHERO Korean Desalination project. 이미지

Professor Sangho Lee served as a senior researcher at Northwestern University in U.S.A. and a research fellow at Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT) in Korea. Upon coming to Kookmin University in 2011, he continues to serve as a professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Professor Lee’s research is in the general area of water treatment and management. Specifically, the research in his group involves: (i) energy-efficient seawater desalination using reverse osmosis, (ii) novel membrane processes such as forward osmosis, pressure retarded osmosis, and membrane distillation, (iii) advanced drinking water treatment and wastewater reclamation using microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and advanced oxidation, (iv) intelligent water management and smart water grid.
